There was a time when journalists would go after politicians from both parties with equal fervor. They regarded themselves as the so-called keepers of the public faith in enforcing honesty in government by exposing deceit and wrongdoing. Yes, they were often harsher on Republicans than Democrats, because they all seemed to envision themselves as the next Woodward or Berstein, the Washington Post duo who brought down Nixon. But most were able to just report the facts without turning into full-blown cheerleaders for whatever Democrat was in the White House.
Not anymore.
The outright bias was never more exposed than during the Trump years, when CNN’s Jim Acosta became the poster child of the Get Trump media. His fellow “journalists” cheered him on to stick it to the President and his various press secretaries every chance he got. It was a classic example of the “speaking truth to power” game for the Left.
So, it must be annoying for them to have someone like Fox News’ Peter Doocy being part of the White House pool. A lot of people have soured on Fox News over the last few years (me included) with their questionable firing of Tucker Carlson and their leftward lean on certain issues. But to date, Doocy has done a good job of behaving as the conservative version of Acosta by calling out Biden and his minions for their actions, behavior, of course, that angers the rest of the clapping seals in the press room who are expected to push the approved narrative.
Want to know just how much the mainstream media is in the Democrats’ back pocket? Recently, White House officials invited numerous political reporters and editors to off-the-record meetings in Wilmington, Delaware, for lessons on crafting the narrative to pump up Biden and knock Trump. The Biden team is supposedly more concerned with too much media attention being focused on Trump’s legal battles and not on “inflammatory” comments he’s made. Some of the media outlets who’ve been invited to sit in on these meetings include representatives from ABC, NBC, The Wall Street Journal, Fox, National Public Radio, Reuters, and Bloomberg Media.
Now, we’ve watched the fiasco with Lloyd Austin, the missing in action Defense Secretary for the last several days. If you’re not up to speed on what was going on with the man and the complete lack of transparency in this administration, Austin had been in the ICU since January 1st after he began to experience complications following what was called an “elective surgical procedure.” It eventually came out that he had been having issues after being treated for prostate cancer. The problem was that Austin lied about working from home, didn’t inform anyone of what was really going on for several days, finally informed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and swore him to secrecy a few days later, transferred some of his responsibilities to the Asst. Secretary of Defense, who was running the Pentagon while she was on vacation in Puerto Rico, and eventually informed the White House where he had been for the last several days. Can we say, “breakdown in the chain of command?” What’s really amazing about all of this is that apparently “Biden” and the rest of his minions didn’t even notice Austin was missing.
So, here’s the scene. John Kirby, the sometime press secretary, was holding a press conference with the journalist pool at the White House, when Peter Doocy let fly with a couple of long overdue questions that left Kirby struggling to answer.
Doocy—"Why should we believe anything that this administration tells us about anything ever again?"
Kirby—"I think we all recognize, and I think the Pentagon has been very, very honest with themselves about ... uh ... the um ... the challenge to credibility by what has transpired here and by what ... and by ... uh ... uh ... how ... how ... how hard it was for them to be fully transparent with the American people. We all recognize that this didn't unfold the way it should have."
Doocy—"But if the administration is going to go to such great lengths to keep secrets about the defense secretary's health, how can anybody be certain that the administration would not go to the same lengths to keep secret problems with President Biden's health in the future?"
Kirby—"If you could logically argue — and you can't — but if you could logically argue —"
Doocy—"He's 81 years old!"
Kirby—"If — if — the administration made some sort of Machiavellian effort across the board to keep this from getting public, then I think your question has merit and certainly is a fair one. I don't think it's a fair one because that's not what happened here."
Who does Kirby think he’s trying to kid? Biden can’t walk anywhere without major concerns from his staff that he’ll face plant. He can’t find his way off a stage without being led around by “Dr.” Jill or escorted by an aide. He wanders off script, snarls and yells inappropriately, can’t remember basic facts, and has to be whisked off to secret locations almost every weekend for God only knows what time of medication regimen they have him on to keep going. The man is an empty suit, and the White House and the lapdog media think we’re too dumb to notice.
I just hope Peter Doocy gets to continue making the “Biden” team look like the fools that they are and doesn’t get muzzled by the Murdochs. But if he does, I’m sure he could bail and land over at Tucker’s new media company. Another teller of the truth would be welcomed with open arms. And Fox would continue its sad slide into mediocrity.
